THE MANEUVERING ROOM

The maneuvering room was the nerve center for the submarine's motor and electrical controls. The electrician would carefully monitor the various electric meters on his panels and adjust the load on the motors accordingly. He could monitor the status of the batteries which powered the motors. During surface operation, the engines would recharge the batteries. The engineering officer in the boat's control room would direct the maneuvering room's operation.

Moving forward in the boat, you next enter the Electrical switch gear area.
